Acceptance Speech by ASSP-NC President Dr. Ogechukwu Christian Ukandu

July 2, 2022

I would like to thank you our esteemed professional members and nonmembers, for placing your unalloyed confidence and trust in me to serve as your Chapter President, a chapter with a proud past and an exciting future. As I refer to ASSP-NC proud past I wish to acknowledge the achievements of our outgoing president, Mr. Shehu Kabir. His leadership of the chapter was smooth, and pragmatic with a clear vision, I think he deserves a round of applause.

A special appreciation to our past secretary Mr. Victor Nnamdi Egbe, Adversary Group member 1 (formerly Delegate 1) Mr. James Coker, Adversary Group member 2 (formerly Delegate 2) Engr, Green, Treasurer Mr. Festus Orepo (Now Adversary Group member 2).

A wonderful year has passed and before we progress onto the next, I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the Election Committee lead by Mrs. Mercy Omoifo Irefo our past past president for a job well done.

Over the next one year we will continue to build on our strengths, and also take on new directions together with the strong support of the new Executive, (my President Elect Fatima Zubair, Secretary Tolulope F.A, Treasurer Bankole Bunmi, Adversary Group Members Angela U., and Festus Orepo, various committees, WISE, and YEP) we will strive to make a difference.

We will continue our programs that strengthen our professionalism through education, training and resources.  We will retain our commitment to solidarity, ensuring that our members that are less resourced can have more opportunities and assistance to develop their skills, methods and operating frameworks required of Safety Professionals.  To ensure that all of us are able to perform our critical role: to protect, preserve and make accessible the records of humanity.

Furthermore, my goal this year include to encourage the membership to make a difference. I want to be someone who gives back, someone who inspires our members to be more involved or to take on leadership roles, to reach out and encourage and mentor those who have a passion to move forward.

Everyone, no matter who you are, has the potential to do something that can improve lives. Let us not forget we are a global society, united by our values and rich with talent.  If each of us puts in what we can, we will find that we can get back what we need despite the challenges.

We have a lot to offer to industries, government agencies, private sectors, and to the broader community as they wrestle with the issues of the modern world and, if we do it right, I know our contributions will be welcomed and appreciated.

I am confident that you are as enthusiastic as I am to see what kind of changes all of us can make together in 2022 – 2023.

Thank you

Dr. Ogechukwu Ukandu
ASSP-NC President (2022 – 23)
